August of this year saw the first ever classical chamber music concert in Ruanda. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institute in Kigali, we gave two public concerts, both of which were enthusiastically received. One performance took place in the Hotel Serena, the other in the Goethe-Institute’s own auditorium. We plan to continue our cooperation with the Goethe-Institute to give further performances.
In addition to our smaller concert projects at various orphanages, we intend to offer concerts specifically for widows that will also provide the opportunity to take part in psychotherapeutic trauma therapy sessions. We hope to offer this type of combination of music and therapy at the music school as well. Further, our plans include concerts involving students and regular and guest teachers from the music school.
We offer benefit concerts in Europe in order to raise funds for our work in Rwanda. Three fund-raising performances in various churches and organizations in Germany and two more in Switzerland are planned for December 2012. If you are a musician and are able to organize such performances to support this project, we welcome your involvement. We, Martin Helmchen und Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, will be organizing the next series of benefit concerts in April and Mai of the coming year. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in hosting a concert or can suggest a venue for a concert.
