Music Road Rwanda was born out of the conviction that music can bring people hope and peace, and has an immense influence on every culture and society. As professional musicians who are often on the road, we feel very strongly that music can provide so much more than entertainment.
Many projects have proven that musical training and the experience of coming together to make music can serve people, and especially children, as a release from a life of poverty and crime.
Rwanda is one of the most densely populated and one of the poorest countries in Africa. It is often called the “Land of 1000 Hills”.
Here in this country so torn by the genocide of 1994, where so many are victims of trauma, we have seen the power of music to change lives.
This is why we travel to Rwanda regularly, where we support the only music school in the country, Kigali Music School – encouraging cooperation with the Orphanages, and organizing concerts for street children, for widows, in hospitals and in churches.
We also collaborate with the local Goethe-Institute to organize concerts, in order to provide the local people with an opportunity to experience classical music. At the same time, we experience African culture and music, and take the input we receive in Rwanda home with us. Thus we are creating a unique and welcomed opportunity for cultural exchange that allows us to learn from each other.
